CREATING INCLUSIVE SPACES FOR A KINDER PUBLIC.
Kinderpublic is a social impact organization whose mission is to create inclusive public/private spaces in cities through design, research and advocacy.
We are interested in how you experience all the places that you occupy on a daily basis.
And how to make them more convenient, accessible and welcoming.
Design = Inclusion
Launched at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) Incubator at New Inc., the New Museum Incubator in New York City.
ACCESSIBILITY & TRANSPARENCY
We believe that cities that actively serve the needs of their most vulnerable populations, such as families with small children, the elderly or disabled are better communities for everyone.
Cities, neighborhoods and buildings should be designed with thoughtful and considerate spaces for living, working and play that serve the broadest spectrum of people - regardless of age, ability, gender, race and sexual orientation etc. Inclusive design emphasizes user diversity to include as many people as possible of different needs, capabilities and aspirations in design decisions.
Priority seating on public transit can assist the elderly, disabled or pregnant; a curb cut can help people using wheelchairs, strollers and crutches to pass from the sidewalk to the road. How able-bodied we are changes throughout our lifetime and cities should be designed with that timeline in mind.
With NYC as our experimental hub, we are advocates for more accessibility and transparency when it comes to navigating the everyday challenges of urban living for all its citizens.
INCLUSIVE DESIGN MAKES A COMMUNITY MORE LIVABLE FOR ALL.
